My Story

My name is Bobbie T. McLean and I am the owner of Simply Good Cakes.  I have always had a passion for cooking and baking and preparing all types of food.  I enjoyed it so much that I decided to enroll in college to study Home Economics Education. I completed my studies in May of 1988 and I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from NC Central University.  My strong desire to educate others was put into action immediately after graduating, and I became a Home Economics teacher.  After teaching "Home Economics" for 25 years I began to share my cake baking passion with family and friends.

One thing that sets me apart from other home bakers is that I have the education and experience behind me.  There is a lot more to baking than just measuring and mixing, it is a science. I use the information, skills, and abilities, in which I instilled into my students, into my business.  In addition to this, I am a ServSafe Certified instructor and proctor.  ServSafe is a food and beverage safety training and certificate program administered by the National Restaurant Association. The program is accredited by American National Standards Institute and the Conference for Food Protection. Sanitation certification is required by most restaurants as a basic credential for their management staff.  Anyone who works within the food industry needs to have this credential /certification. This certification ensures you that I am preparing food items are under strict sanitation guidelines.

So why purchase one of my cakes?  A cake is the centerpiece of an event.  The cost of the cake lies not in the ingredients, but in the labor invested.  Look at what a cake is worth.  You can't get the same cake at Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, Costco, B.J.’s, or any grocery store that you get from Simply Good Cakes.  The two products are not comparable.  My cakes are made fresh from scratch, they are not mass-produced and frozen, they are not made from a box, and they do not sit on a shelf or in a refrigerator for days or weeks. Each and every cake that I  make is just as the name implies a "simply good cake."  I take pride in knowing that I create some of the best tasting homemade cakes that people want to eat. One thing is for sure, a good cake always gets eaten!
